9 Basic Things to Do to Be Yourself

Be yourself! Everyone else is already taken. ~ Oscar Wilde ~

The phrase “be yourself” is likely one of the most used in the history of time.  Yet, it’s such a vague saying.  Just what does it really mean when people say it to another person?  Do they even really know what they’re saying?  It is most often stated so matter-of-factly that the message can almost be missed.  Meaning; little attention is paid to what is really being said.  That could be, at least in part, because that person already feels they know who you are.

You’re a kind, giving individual who likes to inspire others and never seems to want anything in return.  Everything about that statement is good.  That might be how you’re viewed by someone who says to be yourself.  In other words, they’re saying, just be you; don’t change.  Definitely don’t be changed by others.  You’re fine just as you are.  Everything about you is viewed as good and right.  Or, maybe it’s just simply to say be yourself, don’t try to be someone you’re not.  Continue reading “9 Basic Things to Do to Be Yourself”

Do What Matters To You

If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it.  If you don’t ask, the answer is always no.  If you don’t step forward, you’re always in the same place.  ~ Nora Roberts ~

A couple of months ago, two days in a row, I had a conversation with two young ladies about what they wanted for their life.  Purely coincidence.  Also coincidence; both stated they were putting off any serious planning. The reasons were exactly the same. Their reasons were all to familiar to me. Yet; the reason is not justifiable. I openly shared with them both that I’ve walked in those same shoes. Without hesitation, I was straight-forward with them both. They are destined for regret. Continue reading “Do What Matters To You”

11 Things to Know About People Who Have a Kind Heart

Be kind whenever possible.  It is always possible.  ~ Dalai Lama ~

During our lifetime, we get to know all types of people.  There are some that are just born kind.  I’d like to think all of us were born that way.  Indeed we were.  But, as life goes on, we can so easily identify those unusually kind people who are just always there.  At first; you may not even view them that way.  But, by comparison to most people in your life, you see they are exceptional.  They look for nothing in return.  They’re just kind.  It’s nothing they have to work at.  They don’t struggle with some less than kind side because they don’t have one.   If one ever surfaces, it’s more the result of other people’s behavior.  People can change people. Do It Til You’re Satisfied

And as we let our own light shine, we subconsciously give other people permission to do the same.  ~ Marianne Williamson ~

Recently, I heard a song in the background of a movie on the television.  I was in and out of the room, unable to manage to just sit and enjoy the movie.  But, at one point, the song caught my ear.  I stopped to pay attention to the scene in the movie.  The movie, by the way, was Invincible.  A movie, based on a true story, about a lifelong football fan, 30 year old Vince Papale, played by Mark Wahlberg, who gets to see his wildest dream come true.  Having never played college football, he became a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.  I plan to watch it again with uninterrupted time.  I like a good movie based on a true story. Live With Purpose and Keep Striving to be a Better Human

Wake up every day and know your life is the most valuable you have.  For without it, nothing else exists.  ~ Mindful Memo ~

We’ve got this one life.  Every day is challenging enough without any outside influence.  The greatest you could ever give yourself is to live; truly live, your life with purpose.  After all; you were born with purpose. To live being your authentic self, despite other people’s expectations, negative or opinions, is a beautiful thing.  To be comfortable enough with who you genuinely are, but a willingness to always want to be a better person and inspire others to do the same, is the realest you can live, as a human on this earth. The Inner Peace of Accepting What You Can Not Change

This very moment is the perfect teacher and, lucky for us, it’s within us, wherever we are.
~ Pema Chödrön ~

Life has a way of finding us feeling as if we’re always with stress from one source or another.  It can seem like every time you turn around there is something else taking your attention, draining your energy and challenging any positive attitude and efforts you try to put forward.  Practically every day we’re having to face the reality that society is so full of complex issues that we have to absorb the existence of.

Finding peace might feel like it’s just too trying to just have a slice of serenity.  A slice that’s yours and only yours.  No-one else can have even the tiniest piece.  I understand and relate to the demands of stress. After awhile, it can take a toll on our time; our life.  Still make it a priority to keep seeking peace.   Continue reading “The Inner Peace of Accepting What You Can Not Change”

Your Time Here Is Limited, Don’t Waste It On Other People’s Thinking

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.  Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. ~ Steve Jobs ~

It requires constant awareness is to live your own life based on your own thinking.  Not that of others.  It’s a day-to-day practice.  A day-to-day focus.  It can be one of life’s biggest hurdles.  Without warning, it can become easier to follow other people’s thinking and opinions than it is to just be comfortable being yourself.  Following your own heart.

People sometimes find that they are too concerned about what other people think.  They end up either over thinking or unable to think deeply enough about what matters most to their own life.  You can end up with a life of conformity based on people’s expectations. Living in The Present Moment

When you are here and now, sitting totally, not jumping ahead, the miracle has happened.  To be in the moment is the miracle.  ~ Osho  ~

Your thoughts are always of a specific point in time.  Thoughts pertaining to the past, present or future. Thoughts of what was or could have been, what is or isn’t, what will be or hoped will be.  The mind can be a very busy place with an overflow of thoughts.

In the moments of not being present you are sacrificed for time.  Your mind goes to the past, it goes to the future.  At times, past and present are intertwined.  Thinking of the past, hoping the future will be different. Continue reading “Living in The Present Moment”

6 Strong Reasons To Not Give Up

When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hang on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.  ~ Harriet Beecher Stowe ~

Despite your best efforts,  nothing is going in the direction you want it to.  You put in all that effort to reach a goal just to keep feeling like it’s all for nothing.   It just shouldn’t be that difficult.  All you want is to feel better about all that positive you’ve held on to.  You’re sick of feeling like it’s all for nothing.  In fact; it’s actually starting to take a toll on you emotionally.  It’s affecting your health.  Maybe stress.  Maybe depression.  You may not be talking about it with anyone.  That doesn’t change the fact that you’re starting to realize you’re in a bad place. Thinking More Deeply About Faith and Honesty

Be as you wish to seem. ~ Socrates  ~

We should all care to think more deeply about life and every moment within it.  So many don’t though. For one; we’re too busy getting to the next moment.  Two; as humans, we don’t live life at a slow enough pace that we even give much thought to moment to moment living.  We barely give any real thought to the day-to-day aspects of our life.  Too much becomes routine.  What happens in the process is life is literally passing us by…  and quite quickly.
